Man's Best Friend Needs A Helping Hand Part 2

All dogs need to be trained so that they can learn what proper behavior is and they can learn what improper behavior is as well. This article provides helpful advice and strategies on how you can train your dog.

Obedience classes are good ways to train your dog to follow your commands. The obedience instructors can teach you a variety of ways to deal with issues such as your dog not listening, excessive barking, or disobedience toward commands.

Be conscious of your dog's needs, and allow them to act like a dog. Your dog requires a healthy diet, room to exercise, and plenty of activities and toys to keep him or her busy.

Something you could do is put a toy in the dog's mouth and keep it there. Use a clicker to give the dog a treat whenever the dogs uses his mouth to hold a toy. Once he learns the association, hold off on the clicker until he has the toy in his mouth. As soon as the dog does this, use the clicker and give a reward. As he gets even better, only give him a reward for holding the plushie in his mouth for a few seconds.

Continuously maintain all training that you have done with your dog, and consider adding new behaviors as you go. A lot of times owners thing training is a one time event. That's not a good idea, since animals and humans form and retain habits in a similar way. So, it's very important that you review your training with your dog regularly.

Stay consistent when you are trying to train your dog. Write down the commands that you use and then make sure each person who needs to know them does. Make sure the whole household is being consistent with training cues. Different cues from different people will confuse your dog.

Don't be shy about telling your guests how to behave around your dog. These reactions may actually encourage dogs to jump up on your guests or attempt to dominate them.

Teach your pet the proper way to walk on a leash. This is important for the safety of your pet, and it is also beneficial for you as well.

Use your dog's name whenever you are offering it a treat. Your dog must respond well for you to have control. Practice calling your dog's name and letting him respond at least tens times a day. You must never scold your dog for running up to you when its name is called.

Although there are many benefits to using a harness, you will have less control over your dog than if he is wearing a cinch collar. Keep your dog on his harness, but also use your cinching collar. Tug on his collar when it's absolutely necessary, and your dog will soon learn how to obey wearing the harness alone.

Do not tether two dogs close to each other. One dog's chain might become entangled with the other, which could lead to serious injuries. If dogs get tangled up too severely, one can get wrapped up so badly it could close off the airway, and he could die.

During the dog training process, it is a good idea to use various treats as rewards for your dog's good behavior. You can increase your dog's incentive to learn the desired behaviors by offering treats that are extra-special. This helps your pet to understand that this is no ordinary reward.

You will be amazed at the results once you start applying these tips. If you feel like you and your dog are having a hard time, try some of this advice..
